Finals Week as Told By Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be an older TV show, but the comparison of school to hell lives on forever. This cult-classic aired from 1997-2003 and was filled with vampires, demons, and the original slaying queen, Buffy Summers. Whether or not you’ve seen an episode of Buffy before (if you haven’t, go to Netflix and fix that), you have almost definitely seen some of its influence on TV as an art form and pop culture in general. The monster-of-the-week plotline you’ve seen on Supernatural and Doctor Who started with Buffy. The season-long story arcs common in many TV shows? Again, Buffy.  How I Met Your Mother’s Alyson Hannigan, Bones’  David Boreanaz, and Castle’s Nathan Fillion all got their starts on Buffy. And because their high school is on the “Hellmouth,” the gang in Buffy the Vampire Slayer knows how much of a battle finals can be.

When you decide it’s a good idea to go out the night before reading day…

When your professor tells you the final isn’t going to be multiple choice…

When you realize how much you actually have to study…

When you open your textbook to study and immediately want to close it again…

When you need to put your phone on lockdown and actually study…

When someone opens the door to the MLC study room you have so painstakingly guarded…

When someone asks if you’re ready for your 8am final…

When your class bonds over how unprepared everyone feels…

When you don’t even know the answer to the first question…

When the week just isn’t over…

When you hit the end of your essay question and have no idea what to say…

When you walk in ready to slay your last final…

And finally, when you get your final grades…

Good luck on finals, everyone!
