5 Reasons You Should Be As Hyped For Halloween As You Are For Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

With each passing year it seems like Christmas decorations are on display earlier and earlier. Despite it only being October, many stores and TV channels are ramping up the Christmas spirit, and while I personally wake up on November 1st ringing jingle bells, celebrating Christmas at any time before November even hits overshadows one of the best holidays in existence: Halloween. Here are five reasons why you should be just as hyped for Halloween as you are for Christmas.

1. Costumes

Halloween gives you unbridled access to literally play dress-up for a day, and there are no restrictions on what you get to be. You want to be a Disney princess? Awesome! You want to be a black cat? Great! You want to be the Tate Crosswalk? Go for it!

2. Candy

Who doesn’t like candy? Better yet, who doesn’t like free candy? As college students, we have to scrape and scavenge for every penny, so take this opportunity to stock up on sweets for the upcoming year. Besides, the sugar rush that follows will help get you through the last few weeks of classes.

3. Movies and Shows

Halloween is the best time to curl up with a fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot apple cider and watch reruns of your favorite spooky (or not so spooky) films and shows. Hocus Pocus? Check. Halloweentown? Check. The fifth time you’ve watched Stranger Things from the beginning? Check.

4. Festivities

Around Halloween time, many of the classic fall festivities start to become available. October is pretty much the only time during the year when you can go pumpkin or apple picking, go on hayrides, walk through corn mazes, visit haunted houses, carve pumpkins, etc. If we skipped out on Halloween as a whole, think of all the apple orchard Instagram photoshoots we would miss out on, not to mention the lack of pumpkin spice anything. That would be a true tragedy.

5. The Spooky Spooky

The whole point of the Halloween season is to give off that “spooky spooky” vibe in a (mostly) harmless way. From ghosts and ghouls to that Vine of the dancing man with a pumpkin head, the strangest and spookiest come out for October, and whether you’re 5 or 85, there’s something about the chill in the air that anyone can appreciate.

So, as October 31st rolls around this week, make sure to grab your friend Casper and enjoy the annual Spooky Spooky while it lasts!
