5 Fall Events You Need to Attend in Athens

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Fall is arguably the best season, especially in Athens. Not only do you stop sweating through clothes while walking to class, but campus becomes prettier with the fall colors and changing leaves, and sweaters and boots finally make a comeback. With the best college town in the country, there is always something going on, especially during fall. Get excited because here are some upcoming events ranging from fresh food to folk festivals for this season!

1. North Georgia Folk Festival

If you are into folk music and crafts, this is something you have to attend. For the 32nd year in a row this annual folk festival will be held in Athens on Saturday, October 8th at Sand Creek Park. The arts-and-crafts market starts at 11am and ends at 6pm, but music will be played until 9pm. Student tickets are only $8, as well. Some of the acts performing are Chuck Nation Band, The Squalls, The Ale Raisers, Rebecca Sunshine Band. If you want to check out more information or look at the rest of the band lineup go to the site: Athens Folk Music and Dance Society.

2. Washington Farms Pumpkin Patch

Growing up, it was always my family’s tradition of picking out a pumpkin and carving it every year. Even though I am now at college, I still don’t want to miss out. Why not get one for your dorm or apartment? Pinterest some cute ideas, pick a pumpkin out, and carve it with your roommates or hallmates for a craft night. Washington Farms also offers an 8.5 acre corn maze that would be fun to go through on a weekend. The good news is that it opened September 24th, so starting now you can go! According to the website, the corn maze is $14. It’s located right outside of Athens in Bogart. To check out other activities they offer there, check out the website: Washington Farms.

3. Concerts at the Georgia Theatre

With Georgia Theatre’s lineup, any time is a good time for a concert this fall. Get some friends together and check it out in downtown Athens. Some awesome ones that are coming up include Judah and the Lion With Lonely Biscuits (September 30), Nikeyee Heaton (October 6), and Oh Wonder (October 11). Browse their calendar for some more concerts!

4. Athens Farmer’s Market

Love seasonal fall food like squash and apples? Check out this farmer’s market located in Athens. The food is locally produced and it is a not-for-profit corporation benefiting the community. Check out their dates on their website. Buy some yummy foods, and Pinterest cute fall recipes to make like-homemade apple pie or cream-cheese pumpkin rolls.

5. Lickskillet Market and Art Festival

On Saturday, October 22nd, from 10 am to 4pm, go to The Ware-Lyndon House for an artsy day! This artists’ market and festival offers free admission along with pieces from local artists, food vendors, and activities.
