We all know that living in a dorm doesn’t exactly lead to us making the best choices regarding our food. It’s hard not having mom here to cook your favorite meal and force feed you vegetables everyday. Plus, dining hall food can get boring after a while. Whatever the reason, we’ve got some easy dorm recipes that you can cook right in your own room. All you need is a microwave and a little creativity. 

Breakfast

1. Overnight Oats

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup milk or yogurt
  • Cinnamon or honey to sweeten 
  • Fruit and granola toppings

Directions: 

  1. Add oats to a jar or cup
  2. Add in milk or yogurt
  3. Add sweetener
  4. Stir and refrigerate overnight
  5. Add fruit and granola next morning

2. Scrambled Eggs

Ingredients: 

  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp shreded cheese
  • Salt and Pepper

Directions: 

  1. Crack eggs and milk in a bowl and beat until blended
  2. Microwave for 45 seconds and stir
  3. Microwave for 45 more seconds
  4. Top with cheese, salt, and pepper

Lunch/Dinner

3. Mac & Cheese in a Mug

Ingredients: 

  • 1/3 cup pasta
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions: 

  1. Combine pasta and water in mug
  2. Microwave for 2 minutes and stir
  3. Repeat for 2 to 4 more minutes and continue stiring. Water should absorb and pasta should be cooked through.
  4. Remove from microwave and stir in milk and cheese
  5. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir. 

4. Pizza Quesadillas

Ingredients: 

  • 1 Tortilla
  • Tomato sause
  • Grated mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni

Directions:

  1. Spread tomato sause on tortila
  2. Sprinkle cheese and pepperoni
  3. Fold tortilla in half and place in microwave for 45 seconds
  4. Cut into pieces

Dessert

5. Chocolate Mug Cake

Ingredients: 

  • 5 tbsp chocolate cake mix
  • 2 tbsp vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tbsp soda
  • Powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine cake mix, yogurt, and soda in a mug and stir until smooth
  2. Microwave for 90 seconds or until cake begins to crack
  3. Remove and wait for cake to cool
  4. Top with powdered sugar
