20 Best Disney Channel Original Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

Every college student can attest to the fact that sometimes a good dosage of nostalgia is needed in order to carry on. What better way to reflect on your childhood than to watch a couple (or 20) of your favorite Disney Channel Original movies? Don’t lie… You know you loved them all.

1. High School Musical

This one is obviously a classic — who didn’t long for a high school sweetheart as amazing as Troy Bolton? Plus, it happens to have a pretty amazing soundtrack.

2. The Parent Trap

Everybody secretly hoped that they had a long-lost twin after they first saw this movie. Also, who could resist the ridiculous, sneaky antics of young Lindsay Lohan (before she went a bit out of control)?

3. Stuck in the Suburbs

This movie revolved around a cell phone that was accidentally switched with a celebrity, and one of the reasons that this was so awesome is because it was before any of us were old enough to have a cell phone. Oh, memories.

4. Sky High

Whether you would’ve been a hero or a sidekick, everybody wanted to attend Sky High and help fight evil.

5. Cadet Kelly

We all loved Hillary Duff from Lizzie McGuire, so we were naturally obsessed with this movie, also.

6. Halloweentown

The best thing about the Halloweentown series was that it didn’t necessarily have to be Halloween in order to enjoy them. These movies were great all year long.

7. The Cheetah Girls

This was another example of a wildly popular series with a great soundtrack. Plus, we all lowkey wanted to be the fourth Cheetah Girl when Raven Symoné didn’t come back for the final movie.

8. Smart House

This one tended to give us some mixed feelings — on the one hand, it would be pretty awesome to have a smart house, but on the other hand, maybe it wasn’t so great when the house started trying to control every little thing that the family did.

9. Get a Clue

Another classic LiLo movie… And here, it totally made us want to become spies.

10. Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century

All three of these movies were great, and it set up some pretty lofty expectations for how we hope the future turns out to be.

11. Quints

Okay, even though this movie was super entertaining, we all experienced a brief moment of panic when we considered the possibility of having five baby siblings.

12. Camp Rock

Demi Lovato. The Jonas Brothers. Enough said.

13. Cow Belles

Even as children, we identified with the laziness portrayed by Aly and AJ’s characters. However, we hopefully weren’t quite that self-absorbed and entitled when we were children.

14. Read It and Weep

This movie reminded us that most people have two sides to them: a sweet and innocent side, and a more conniving, sassy side. Plus, who didn’t love the song “On the Outside Looking In” that appeared in this movie. That was a definite banger.

15. Princess Protection Program

This movie makes us mourn the beautiful friendship that existed between Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato (RIP Delena).

16. The Thirteenth Year

This one was always a bit odd… We can only be thankful that we never randomly started becoming mermaids when we turned 13.

17. Twitches

Like The Parent TrapTwitches made us wish that we grew up with a twin… And on top of that, it made us wish that we had magical powers.

18. The Color of Friendship

Props to Disney for making this progressive movie based on a real historical event! Here, it was clear to us that friendship was never supposed to be based on color.

19. Jump In!

Corbin Bleu was the love of our lives, so naturally, we couldn’t help but love this movie about competitive Double Dutch. Sure, it might be a bit of a random sport, but we loved it just the same.

20. Minutemen

In this movie, the minutemen used a time machine to undo their embarrassing mistakes from the past. Do I even need to explain why this sounds so appealing?

Emily is a first year student at the University of Georgia from Columbus, Georgia and is currently pursuing a double degree in English and Education. She can often be found reading, gushing about her dog, or wasting an inappropriate amount of time on Netflix.
