Cold nights walking around on campus, just you and your music in. The air is brisk and the leaves crunch underneath your feet. What are you listening to? Hopefully, these 10 songs that you may or may not know. Each of them makes you want to cuddle up inside of your house with a warm cup of hot cocoa and an oversized blanket.

Sweet Jane

By: The Cowboy Junkies

The deep guitar riffs in this song, along with the hypnotizing tune of the chorus gives this song a soft fall feeling. If this song were a color, it would be dark tones of orange.

Fade Into You

By: Mazzy Star

The vocalist’s voice is the perfect amount of nasal and airy – it makes one feel like they are floating amongst the autumn leaves. This is definitely a song that would be played next to a nighttime fire with good friends.

You

By: Nicole Bus

The gentle saxophone behind this song is serene. Easy on the ears, the soft rolling of the bridge can transcend one into a fall state of mind.

That’s the Way

By: Led Zeppelin

Ah yes, Led Zeppelin. They never seemed to disappoint back in the ’70s and even today, people still enjoy their incredibly unique and innovative sound. The way Robert Plant sings this song is slightly eerie, making one feel like they are being lured further into the chorus with every lyric. The light guitar and vocals remind me of harvesting something in a garden.

Shuggie

By: Foxygen

This song has a spiraling movement to it; throughout the entire song, it slows down and picks back up. It feels like you are walking aimlessly in circles. You would know this feeling if you have ever walked around aimlessly before your next class to waste time.

NO HALO

By: BROCKHAMPTON

One of this group’s more popular songs, it is definitely a song that should be on your fall playlist. The solitary bass drum overarching the entire piece emits feelings of loneliness, something people can feel around the holidays and in autumn. It is a fantastic song with a smooth groove that is easy to have on repeat 24/7.

Crash into Me

By: Dave Matthews Band

Another soft classic – and one that is truly timeless at that. This ’90s hit has been used in scenes from Lady Bird and The Office, etc. The soft, folk classic is composed of mandolins, drums, piano, guitar – the entire work builds on itself. The romantic sound behind this song resembles the magical feeling people can only get in the winter seasons.

Tangled Up in Blue

By: Bob Dylan

With lyrics like “the sun was shining, I was laying in bed” and “wondering if her hair was still red,” Dylan illustrates a fall scene through his use of color. On top of that, the comforting rhythm of this song makes one feel like they are in a warm embrace, even though it may be cool outside.

August

By: Flipturn

The guitar is almost dancing on top of the melodies in this song. The name of the tune – August, immediately associates the imagery with the time of year where the leaves begin to change.

Apocalypse

By: Cigarettes After Sex

For some reason, sad songs with a melancholy beat remind me of the fall. Everything is beautiful, but it is also slowly dwindling away and dying. This song depicts that feeling through its haunting chorus and lonely melodies.
