10 Female Fashion Icons to Help Create a New School Year Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

A new school year means a lot of things: new classes, new friends, new parking spots (if there are any), new experiences, and the best part of going back to school…new clothes! A new school year feels like a whole blank canvas. People express their creativity and personality in a multitude of ways. Unsurprisingly, I like to write. But clothes provide a visible way to radiate our individual personalities on campus, which is super cool and beautiful. Whether your style is bold or more muted, comfortable or formal, athleisure or runway ready, we all want to express ourselves. Sometimes creating a new look can be difficult. Even the most famous fashion creators have to have inspiration. These 10 female icons have been all the talk lately and not only are they talented at what they do, they know how to wear some cute clothes too! Hopefully these looks will assist you in your new school year looks!

Lana Condor

She’s known for her facial expressions and superb acting as Lara Jean Covey. Both the sequel and final installment of the trilogy To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before are on their way and I quite literally could not be more excited! Her Met Gala outfit was a dream and here she is blowing us away again with a flowy blouse, black vest, earrings and bronze eye look. Can we all recreate this outfit? Please, if you ever need a female fashion icon to look to, remember our sweet Lana Condor.

Lili Reinhart

I haven’t worn a Peter Pan collared shirt since middle school, but if my girl Betty Cooper can pull it off, it’s officially cool to bring these shirts back. You achieve a very cutesy and feminine look that pairs well with a pink lip. If you take inspiration from anything in Betty’s closet, it’s bound to be fashionable. You’ll look like a preppy detective. And don’t forget the ponytail!

Zendaya

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Zendaya wearing something that wasn’t absolutely fabulous. This layered look with vibrant colors is giving me all the Barbie vibes in the best way. This look is bold and fun! There’s always room for fun fashion statement clothes in a new wardrobe. You couldn’t help but be happy wearing an outfit like this.

Millie Bobby Brown

This season of Stranger Things had us all up in our feels for countless reasons. One of them being El’s persistent use of Hopper’s flannels as her go-to look. She rocked the multi-colored romper and 80’s style patterned shirts. We were so excited to see her branch out with her fashion choices, but come on…There’s nothing like a soft, gone-through-the-wash-a-million-times flannel to cozy-up in. Make this a season for flannels. If for nothing else, do it for Hopper.

Emma Chamberlain

We are all obsessed with Emma Chamberlain for a multitude of reasons. Her hilarious commentary on life is entertaining and her outfits are on a whole different level. I suggest checking out her Instagram for outfit ideas. To be fair, her budget for clothes for an 18-year-old girl is wild, but she also does a fair amount of thrifting YouTube videos, which can be a helpful resource when searching for a new wardrobe. This floral headband and high ponytail-action is definitely a look that I can get behind.

Constance Wu

I mean wow. Constance Wu is gorgeous and stylish all the time. Every outfit in Crazy Rich Asians was to die for. Unfortunately, we can’t go about our day-to-day lives wearing ridiculously expensive gowns, but we can draw inspiration from Constance’s more casual fashion choices. She absolutely rocks the middle part and bold lip color. Let’s all be more brave about our lipstick choices because look at her rocking hot pink! The white tank top, choker and bold dangly earrings as the statement piece is EVERYTHING. It’s the perfect mix of chic and sassy. Get a choker. Take a leap of faith with lipstick. Bring back dangly earrings!

Chloe Bennet

Chloe Bennet kicks butt and looks freaking amazing while doing it. I mean, who looks that good in sweat pants? Are you kidding? That’s just upsetting. Also, I haven’t worn brightly colored pants since I dressed like Louis Tomlinson circa 2012, but Chloe is bringing them back. Perhaps a pair of hot pink pants are just the piece we need to bring some new life to our wardrobe? I don’t think I’m classy enough to be the girl that wears blazers, but you do you, girl.

Camilla Cabello

There is no denying the beauty that is Camilla Cabello. Her relationship with Shawn Mendes is all anybody can talk about lately. While some think the extreme PDA is a publicity stunt, I am happy for the two talented lovebirds. Regardless, this article is about her style and, wow, is it flawless. Denim jackets are the best way to spice up a wardrobe and Camilla is proving that.

Dove Cameron

Dove has been in our hearts and on our minds a lot lately. The premiere of Descendants 3 was a success and (spoiler alert) her character saved the day once again. Listen, I know that movies target audience is not college girls, but I LOVED it and I am not sorry. Anywho, Dove is always serving looks. The recent tragic loss of her close friend and fellow Disney costar, Cameron Boyce, has been especially difficult on her. However, she is pushing forward and doing a lot of work for the foundation started by Cameron’s family to honor his legacy. Dove is totally rocking the turtleneck and chunky necklace in a way that I someday hope to master. If Dove Cameron wears a turtleneck, they’re in.

Sadie Sink

Everyone absolutely adored Sadie’s character, Max, in this summer’s third season of Stranger Things. She provided the beloved friend group with a new dynamic and was El’s first female friend who took every opportunity to teach her about girl power. The show takes place in the 80’s, which meant that the audience was treated to some show-stopping outfits. Max showed us that a colorful tee tucked into high waisted shorts is cute, stylish and appropriate for all occasions.

To be fair, I’ve been wearing a thrifted Thanos t-shirt around campus, but I’m always looking to up my fashion game. No matter what outfit you wear, it’s the confidence that you have in said outfit that matters. Trust us, you look stunning! Go strut your stuff on campus!
