Shopping During the Holidays, as told by How I Met Your Mother

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

As much as I live for the holidays, I rarely start shopping more than a month in advance. And no matter how well your gift list is planned, it seems like something always goes awry, and a little creativity is necessary. This sums up holiday shopping as told by our good friends Marshall, Lily, Barney, Robin and Ted.

If you’re like me, you start with the process of brainstorming gift ideas.

I settle on a fifty-fifty divide between shopping online and in-store. I’ll do what I have to for those that I love — even pay shipping fees.

I praise the existence and student-membership rates of Amazon Prime and have some gifts immediately shipped and at my door two days later.

If you see someone trying to make a move on the sweater you need to get for your brother, show no fear.

Keep a watchful eye to make sure none of your friends try to peek in your cart while shopping for their gift.

When you overhear someone in Target saying, “I finished all my shopping weeks ago,” this is how you want to react:

Remember this important rule: Always stop to snack.

When the gift you’ve been putting off purchasing goes out of stock:

There is nothing quite like the joy of your favorite Michael Buble Christmas song coming on in public.

When you realize you’re done holiday shopping and you’re free to nap for the rest of vacation.

Enjoy your shopping and time off this winter, but remember that the most important part of the holidays isn’t what you receive; it’s spending time with those you care about. Happy holidays!
