Savvy Updates: Mastering Your Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Ready for a Savvy Update that will help you ace your midterms? This week, I’m going to give you some help refreshing your study skills.

Follow these seven tips and you’ll be sure to get an A on that next big exam while staying calm, cool and collected the night before.

  1. Find out ahead of time what material the test will cover. Professors at UF always have office hours available and sometimes they will even extend these hours before a big exam. This is a great time to take advantage of your professor’s office hours, while introducing yourself and make a point to seem like you are trying your hardest to prepare. If for some reason you cannot make office hours, many professors are willing to work around your schedule to help you succeed.
  2. When studying, study in a place that is free of distraction. Many libraries around UF are open into the early morning hours, which will help you concentrate on the material at hand and not waste time with distractions.
  3. Study when you’re alert. It’s a waste of time to semi-study while sleepy, so get some rest and wake up ready in the morning with a new attitude.
  4. Don’t wait until the last minute to start preparing for your test. Short, daily study sessions are better than one long, cramming session.
  5. Repeat information and say it aloud. Study with a buddy and teach each other!
  6. Create your own study aids. Use notecards, presentations and different colors to make memorization easier on your eyes.
  7. Have confidence! The first key to success on a test is the confidence that you will do your absolute best and pass with flying colors.

I hope these seven tips help you on your next big test! After you finish, relax and enjoy a pumpkin spice latte … you deserve it.
