Savvy Updates: A Healthy You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

With Spring Break quickly approaching, many collegiate women across the country have been hitting the gym as well as eating healthy in effort to be bikini-ready come March. This can be easier said than done.

What is the connecting factor that makes it hard for collegiate women to actually lose the pounds in a healthy way? This week’s Savvy Update focuses on a healthier lifestyle that starts right at mealtime. Follow these tips and that spring break bod will be attainable with hard work and persistence.

1. Portion control.Sometimes it’s not what you eat but how much of it. There will always be times when a food craving will get in the way of a diet. If you can avoid these cravings, more power to you, but I know from experience that getting rid of a chocolate peanut butter ice cream craving is no laughing matter. Use cravings as a treat or reward for you during your new healthy regime, but don’t go overboard. The difference in getting a kid’s sized cup of ice cream and a Gotta-Have-It at Coldstone Creamery can make a difference.

2. Snack smart. When reaching for a snack, don’t always go with what’s right in front of you. Be smart about what you choose—try to focus on a snack that will fill you up more than potato chips. Celery sticks with peanut butter or carrots in hummus have the potential to keep you full longer without breaking out some serious calories. Staying fuller longer means less snacking and more calories being burned.

3. Drink more.Staying hydrated during the day will suppress hunger and increase productivity. When you are dehydrated, your body can become fatigued and headaches will also become a common occurrence. Staying hydrated is one of the necessities for keeping your body healthy and illness free. Water is always the top choice for hydration, but for something different you can also try green tea.

Follow these tips and you will be on your way to a better and healthier you… just in time for Spring Break!
