Mid-Size and Plus-Size Influencers You Need to Follow For Style Inspiration

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

In the age of fast fashion, it can be hard to find style inspiration when trends come and go so quickly. It’s even harder as a mid-size or plus-size person. Even as clothing brands are slowly shifting towards promoting diverse bodies on their websites, there’s still a long way to go to truly represent a wide range of sizes that aren’t the typical small to large, and sometimes extra-large sizes. Mid-size and plus-size people deserve to have people with similar body types to look to for style inspiration. Here are seven influencers that I’ve stumbled upon over the years to diversify my own sense of style.

Skye Vang (@skyevaang)

Skye is a midsize woman that promotes body positivity and self-love through her TikTok and Instagram. Most of her content revolves around clothing try-on hauls, get ready with me videos and outfit videos.
If you’re looking to see how to style solid, pastel colors together, then she’s your girl!

Georgette (@georgetteidk)

On Georgette’s TikTok, they post a ton of thrift hauls and videos of their plus-size Depop shop. Typical outfits found on Georgette’s TikTok are earth-toned and neutral-colored.
Georgette gives inspiration to outfits that many mid-size and plus-size can achieve by going to their local thrift stores or a simple search on Depop. They also discuss the disadvantages that mid-size and plus-size folk are bound to face when they attempt to look for their sizes.

Karina (@livingaskarina)

Based in Los Angeles, Karina Gomez promotes second-hand fashion in her videos as she tries to be more sustainable with her own lifestyle. She doesn’t stick to one single type of style, so it’s nice to watch her videos when you just don’t know where to start.

Lauren Licup (@laurenlicup)

One of my favorite influencers ever is Lauren Licup, a plus-size woman who has trendy yet diverse styling. Recently, she’s been into layering her clothes more, something I’ve needed help on for some time, especially with the hot and cold weather in Gainesville. If there’s one person to follow for inspiration on feminine clothing, Lauren is definitely the gal to follow.

Sian Westley (@sianwestley

https://www.instagram.com/p/CF-GLBZDVn0/
Sian is one influencer who’s unafraid to call out the fatphobia that runs deep in society. Along with that, she has a popular TikTok series titled “Is It A Fit or Just Skinny?” where she tries on various fashion trends that have almost exclusively been promoted by skinny, and typically White, influencers.

Ariahna (@actuallyariahna)

Ariahna is the best to follow when you really don’t know how to layer clothing. Even with how simple the process of layering is, trying to put together a cohesive outfit without drowning in the layers can be a difficult task.
Her clothes revolve around darker colors like black and purple rather than the more bright and colorful styles of others on this list.

Alex (@alexstagram3000)

Another sustainability-focused influencer that promotes second-hand shopping is Alex. Alex has her own brand called Shiny by Nature and hopes to promote more color diversity in her clothes while also advocating for more sustainable practices. There is not a single video on her Instagram that doesn’t feature her signature in-your-face vibrant reds, greens and yellows.

All in all, fashion shouldn’t just belong to the people who have been at the forefront of the industry throughout history. Not only are these creators styling cute new outfits for people to take inspiration from, but they are providing mid-size and plus-size people with inspiration and advice that directly reflects thei body types, more body positivity and less fatphobic references.
