If Harry Potter Characters Went to UF: Part 2

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

With the buzz of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them filling the air, it’s no wonder that my nostalgic side starts day-dreaming about Harry Potter during class. I’ve already figured out where the main characters fit in (see last year’s article to find out more!) but with such a colorful cast of other characters to play with, it was only a matter of time before I started imagining them at UF as well. If you’re curious as to what your favorite secondary Harry Potter character would be like at UF, look no further.

Cedric Diggory: Cedric was the most popular boy at his high school (class president, captain of the swim team, prom king), and no one was really surprised when he decided to go to UF on a scholarship for swimming. His father expected him to join a regular fraternity, but kind-hearted Cedric found his calling with a service fraternity. He’s studious and hardworking, but you can often spot Cedric and his girlfriend Cho taking walks by Lake Alice. He’s majoring in political science and hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps in government.

Cho Chang: Cho seems to have it all—she’s pretty and popular and has maintained stellar grades since she arrived on campus. A sister of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Cho sometimes finds it hard to juggle between her extracurriculars, her studies and social life, but she always finds a way. She met her boyfriend Cedric because they’re both on the swim team. Cho is an accounting major and is often found studying in Library West, where Cedric will often surprise her with Starbucks when she crams.

Viktor Krum: This brooding Bulgarian student was already an international football success before he was offered a scholarship and a place on UF’s team. He chose to come to UF because of the fantastic academic opportunities it offered. He’s a computer engineering major. He was studying at Marston Science Library when he met Hermione, who asked him if anyone was using the seat next to him because she needed the outlet. He has a bit of a crush on her, but is intimidated.

Fleur Delacour: An exchange student from the south of France, Fleur had very low expectations when she came to UF (she originally wanted to go somewhere glamorous like New York City, but there weren’t any spots left). After all, how could some little town in the middle of Florida be as hip and cultured as Paris? But Gainesville has its charms, and even Fleur has to admit that the downtown area is tres chic. She instantly made a lot of friends and is starting to enjoy football games (even if she doesn’t understand how it works). A business management major, Fleur’s favorite part of campus is the Heavener School of Business.

Fred and George Weasley: The entire Weasley family attended UF at one point or another—heck Molly and Arthur even met at a football game—but Fred and George are interested in creating their own paths. Both of them are telecommunications majors, but their real passion lies in their hilarious Vines and their joint YouTube channel. They’re basically famous on campus.

Lee Jordan: An aspiring radio announcer and close friend of Fred and George, Lee Jordan is also a telecommunications major and met Fred and George when they were filming a Vine in Weimar. Lee is a part of Gator National Broadcasting Society and has his own podcast. He’s mostly into sports updates, but has his own talk show as well.

Lavender Brown: Lavender Brown has been roommates with her best friend, Parvati, since their freshman year, and now as juniors they live together in an apartment behind sorority row. Both of them are in the same sorority, and Lavender can often be seen on her sea-foam green scooter on the way to her public relations class. She has a huge crush on Ron Weasley. They matched on Tinder and went on one date, but she’s already planning their wedding.

Parvati Patil: Parvati loves her best friend, Lavender. Really, she does. But she’s aware that Lavender can get a bit boy crazy at times. Parvati is an advertising major and a member of the Gator Ad Society as well as part of APIA. She enjoys sorority life as much as Lavender (they had the same Big!). Her twin sister, Padma, is an electrical engineering major, and though Padma’s usually busy studying, they make a point to meet up for Starbucks at least once a week.

Seamus Finnigan: Seamus grew up watching football, and when he was little he wanted to be a professional football player. He decided to settle for being a professional football coach instead. He’s a sports management major. He goes to every game and makes a point to line up for BEAT T-shirts. Seamus and his best friend, Dean, are inseparable, and they go to Mother’s Pub every Monday for 40-cent wings.

Dean Thomas: People often wonder how artist Dean Thomas and jock Seamus Finnigan ended up as best friends and roommates, and to be honest, Dean doesn’t really know. It’s never been an issue for him though. He’s an art major and spends a lot of his time in the Harn, but he still loves football as much as his best friend and goes to every game. The two of them go way back and are glad to be at UF together.

Did your favorite character make the list? If not, then feel free to imagine up their own destiny at UF.

Petrana Radulovic is a senior studying English and Computer Science. She hopes to be a writer someday and live in the Pacific Northwest, where she will undoubtedly divide her time between sipping coffee at a local café and sipping coffee in her living room, working on her latest story. She enjoys singing when she thinks she’s the only person at home, obsessively watching America’s Next Top Model, and wearing all black no matter what the weather. In her future, she sees many cats and many books and many mugs. She is currently the Senior Editor for HerCampus UFL, but writes the occasional article because she can't help herself. This is her sixth semester with HerCampus.
