Gator Synchro President Ivana Radovanovic

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Name: Ivana Radovanovic Age: 19 Year: sophomore Major: biomedical engineering Hometown: Coral Springs, FL

Her Campus: What is your position on campus? Ivana Radovanovic: “I’m the president of (Gator) Synchro.”

HC: How did you get involved? IR: “I got involved because I used to do (synchronized swimming) before… This is my ninth year doing it. Most girls on the team are experienced, but we have a couple that just started in college.”

HC: What is your favorite part of being in the club? IR: “You get a lot of bonding time, and you wouldn’t expect how many friends you make out of it; you make really long relationships. They know you differently than school friends. When you’re at practice you are weirder, and you don’t really care how you look and stuff like that, so it’s a lot more fun.”

HC: And the biggest challenge? IR: “Balancing school and swimming. That’s definitely a big one, but it’s possible.”

HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? IR: “The thing with this sport is you always are connected with it, so whether I still swim or I don’t swim, I’ll still be connected. I see myself working in my major but still involved with synchro, going to the meets and stuff like that.”

HC: What are your hobbies? IR: “I like to hangout with my roommates and play board games.”

HC: Do you have any hidden talents? IR: “I speak a lot of languages: Spanish, English, Serbian, Portuguese and French.”

HC: Who is your role model? IR: “I think it’s my mom. She’s really tough with her whole life, but she always keeps her head up with whatever gets thrown at her.”

HC: What advice would you give to new students? IR: “Get involved, and meet new people. Don’t hide in a shell and get scared of UF.”

HC: What is your favorite memory at UF so far? IR: “My first day here and realizing ‘I’m a big girl now,’ like I’m on my own.”
