Film School: Rashandra Jones

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

The demands of a career in production can scare some people from pursuing it, but for those who love the creativity and competition of the field, they’re what makes it worth-while.
“I always knew this is what I was meant to be doing,” said Rashandra Jones, a fourth year telecommunications major.
She, along with her business partners and fellow classmates Ashley Morrow and Shaniqua Rivers, created Emarjay Films, a brand new production company on campus.
Emarjay Films was created after a conversation with film producer Will Packer (“Stomp the Yard,” “Takers”).
He told my partner Shaniqua about how he started his first production company in college. She was inspired by him and approached us about starting our own company. Now you have Emarjay,” Jones said.
The company has been making its mark on campus. It has already made several promotional videos for organizations like the Black Student Union and Florida Invitational Step Show. It’s currently working on a documentary on colorism in the African American community for the UF chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers.
“We have big projects in the making. Emarjay is not just about promotional videos, we make films, documentaries, anything you need we can produce. We will be making a mark on the UF campus,” Jones said.
Jones claims that she always had an interest in film production.
“I would watch documentaries and be fascinated about how they were made. When I watched movies I would notice the different frames and angles. I always knew I wanted to work in production, even as a child.”
After graduation, Jones plans on moving to either Atlanta or Los Angeles to pursue a career in television production.
She doesn’t plan on leaving Emarjay Flims behind.
When asked about the future of Emarjay films Jones smiled brightly and said, “Emarjay Films is not just a college project. We are a production company on the rise. We will be a household name. I see great things for our future”
