The Crafty Gator: A Simple Valentine’s Day Gift

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Hey Collegiettes!

Since it’s getting close to Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d honor “Parks & Recreation” and think of a great Galentine’s Day gift (February 13, mark your calendars!) to make for all of your best girlfriends this year. A new spin on the traditional friendship bracelet is this adorable friendship bracelet barrette. It can be adorned with a bow (or not) and the choice of colors is up to you! Let’s get started on this easy, affordable craft!

You’re going to need some embroidery floss, each color is 37 cents at Michael’s or maybe you have some kicking around in an old drawer from when you were a kid. Barrettes are $1.99 for a pack of six at Michael’s as well.

Begin by cutting about a foot of each color of embroidery floss. Tie them through the top of your barrette, as seen here:

I found a diagram of the pattern I used, but feel free to use any pattern you know!

I’d recommend using at least eight strands of as many colors as you want. I used four colors and folded the strands in half to get the eight strands. You can use more, but I wouldn’t do any less than eight because the finished “bracelet” portion needs to cover the width of the barrette.

Once you’ve created the pattern down to the bottom of the barrette, it’s time to get out the hot glue gun. Glue down the “bracelet” part so it lies flat, then put the loose ends through the hole on the bottom, and tie a bow (double knot!). Trim the ends of the bow, and you’re all done!

I’m definitely going to make a bunch of these to give to all my friends this year, and you should, too! Here’s me being a friendship bracelet barrette model:
