The Best Resources for Academic Success

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Don’t let the pressures of class overwhelm you just yet! Take advantage of the resources you have at your fingertips. There are thousands of online resources to help with classes, but which ones are worth checking out? Look no further, because we’ve done the work for you with our list of the best academic resources that can help you throughout this semester and beyond.

  • Academic Earth. www.academicearth.org has video lectures on a variety of topics from various top universities, including Yale, MIT and Stanford. Students can search through universities, subjects or instructors. If you are a student looking to gain outside knowledge about law, biology, physics or other topics, this website can help you.
  • Ratemyprofessor.com. This popular website is designed to let past students rate professors, so that future students can make an informed decision before signing up for a class. But the website is only good if people continue using it. Remember to comment on your professors after you have them to help future students, too.
  • Lynda.com. www.lynda.com is a website dedicated to online software training. Want to learn Photoshop or Dreamweaver? Lynda.com has classes for beginners to experts that you can start and stop whenever you want. And lucky for us, the University of Florida just launched a one-year partnership with the site, so we get to use it for free!
  • Huffingtonpost.com/college. Publishing the top news of interest to college students, this site will help to keep you informed about more than just what your Facebook feed is telling you. Check it at least once a day to keep up to date on what is happening outside of campus and learn about current events affecting your world.
  • Computing Help Desk. With all the constant use our Internet and computers get these days there are bound to be glitches. The best source for a quick fix is the UF Computing Help Desk. Its website is www.helpdesk.ufl.edu and has information regarding the hours of operation, announcements and alerts on changes to the system.
  • Counseling and Wellness Center, www.counseling.ufl.edu. College can be stressful, but the Counseling and Wellness center aims to help students succeed at life. Take advantage of their stress-relief techniques and organizational tools to help keep your course load under control.
  • The best resource for UF students is …  www.ufl.edu. It links students to all of the UF websites as well as UF news. It also links students to websites for their own college where they can look up course listing and degree requirements.
