5 Songs for Collegiettes to Study to

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

The end of the semester is among us and summer is right around the corner. Huzzah! While there is much to look forward to, final exams are not one of these things. This week I have compiled a list of songs to help you survive the rest of the semester in the library.

1. “Cello Prelude” by Bach

Apparently there have been multiple studies on music’s studying impact, and Baroque music is found to be one of the best things to listen to. It slows down your heart rate for increased concentration, so you can say bye bye to panic attacks. Apparently it has other super powers like the ability to activate both sides of the brain for increased information retention. Whoa, that’s a game changer right there.

2. “Don’t Stop” by Foster the People

This is not meant to be a #TBT for Gator Growl 2014; I just happen to love this band. Usually I listen to this song while running (you can probably guess why), but it’s also good if you need an extra boost of energy or encouragement while powering through a long study session. With its repeated lyrics of “Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop,” you’ll finish that paper in no time!

3. “Sinking Man” by Of Monsters and Men

I have Pandora to thank for this gem. Yes, for some reason I still use Pandora. But this song and the band are both perfect if you need a mid-study cry. It’s slow and sad, and this video is nothing but jellyfish floating into the light of death. Mesmerizing. Take a break to cry out your study-related frustrations, and then get back to the study grind.

4. “Lose Yourself” by Eminem

This song is a classic and it definitely got me through finals last semester. If you need a burst of confidence and want to walk around campus like you’re Beyoncé, listen to this before heading into an exam. You’ll be thinking to yourself, “Yeah, I got this! This is my chance!” And those thoughts are much better than what’s usually running through my mind before an exam, which is typically along the lines of “Oh gosh, I’m not prepared for this at all.”

5. “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus

This is a semi-classic for post-test depression if your exam didn’t go as well as planned. You can cry it out while looking at old pictures of Miley and Liam, or you can be cheered up by the absurdity of watching Miley licking a hammer. Your choice!

The end of the semester is obviously an emotional roller coaster full of highs and lows and the occasional breakdown. Fear not! It will be over before you know it. “Don’t Stop” studying even if you “Lose Yourself” in the library and can’t find your way Bach! See what I did there? Godspeed, collegiettes.
