11 Struggles of Living On Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

If you’re in college, it’s extremely likely that you’ve lived on campus for at least a year of your time. I talked to other students to help compile a list of the ultimate struggles of on-campus living.

1. Missing your bed from home. There is nothing quite like the memory of a queen when you’re stuck with a twin XL.

2. Being forced to drag laundry down three flights of stairs, clean out someone else’s lint, the dryer leaving your clothes wet — and having to pay for it. My friends who live close enough to take their laundry home don’t realize how #blessed they truly are.

3. Sharing a room with someone who doesn’t have the same sleep schedule. Nothing good can come from trying to sleep when your roommate wants to listen to music and keep all of the lights on.

4. When the youths on your floor are yelling really loudly at night, and you’re just trying to read Mindy Kaling’s autobiography in peace.

5. The consistent lack of parking. The parking-spots-to-cars ratio is definitely skewed. Enough said.

6. The WiFi being weak and flickering in and out while trying to binge-watch about seven hours of Netflix consecutively.

7. Having to take all of your dishes and food out of your room and into the kitchen every single time you want to make something that resembles real food.

8. Being really excited to go pick up a package, and then realizing you have to change into real clothes because it might not be socially acceptable to go outside in pajamas.

9. The odd smells that sometimes waft through the stairwells and don’t seem to disappear for weeks at a time.

10. Forgetting your keys and having to use a lock-out. Bonus struggle points: If you get locked out more than five times and have to pay the $50 fee.

11. Not living close enough to a dining hall and being forced to turn to the vending machine as the sole option for late-night study snacks.

While living on campus can get a little frustrating at times, remember this great perk: You can roll out of bed 20 minutes before class and still make it there on time. Now that’s what I call winning.
