Get to know Melanie Poppel!

Pronouns: She/Her

Year: First year

Major/ minor: Undeclared but most likely Communications

College: Seventh

Hometown: Abington, PA

Q: What made you join Her Campus?

A: I joined Her Campus because it seems like a really fun way to be creative with writing and social media and meet girls who have the same interests as me! Everyone seems super sweet and supportive and I’m excited to make new friends.

Q: What are you studying? What field do you want to get into?

A: I’m undeclared right now but will probably major in communications. I also want to take some classes in gender studies, marine biology, film, and sociology while I’m in college. As for a career, I think it would be cool to do social media marketing or work for a magazine.

Q: What are some of your current or past projects that you have initiated or were involved in? Are there any content ideas you are excited about?

A: I’m excited to find free activities and events in San Diego to share with everyone. I’m also thinking about writing music, movie, and podcast recommendations, and maybe some sort of advice column. I love graphic design and photography so I’m hoping to help with social media as well!

Q: Any hobbies or interests?

A: In my free time, I like going to the beach and spending time with friends. Some of my other hobbies are baking, doing yoga, and journaling, and I’m always down to have a chill night watching TV too.

Q: If you could star in a movie, which movie would it be?

A: I would be in “The Devil Wears Prada” because I love all of the outfits they wear and I think it would be super cool to experience Andy’s life and see the behind the scenes of what happens at a fashion magazine.

Q: Where do you want to travel?

A: I really want to travel across Europe and go to all of the major cities, and I definitely want to study abroad either in Paris or London. I also think it’d be fun to visit some of the national parks because they all seem beautiful, and at some point while at UCSD I want to do a road trip up the coast of California!

Q: What is your best memory of UCSD or San Diego so far?

A: I’ve only been here a few weeks, but I really like going to watch the sunset at Gliderport with my friends. It’s always so pretty and my dorm is only a 10 minute walk from it. I also went to a Gracie Abrams concert with two of my roommates which was really fun, and we were able to get super close to the stage.
