Room Decor: Picture It On Canvas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

As collegiettes, we have moved from space to space all throughout our college career. First, there was the tiny dorm room and suite that you shared with twenty other girls, then the first apartment that you had five people squeeze into. Whether you are currently embracing the urban loft life or have made the move to a roomier location, we are always left with empty wall spaces that you aren’t quite sure what to do with (but don’t have the time or budget to call in an interior decorator for reinforcement).

That’s why we want you to know about our favorite way of decoration website! Check out Picture it On Canvas, a custom printing service that takes users’ personal photos and hand-prints the image onto just about anything — canvas, slate, metal, tote bags, and the list continues. Rather than printing out standard 5×7 pictures that can make your walls look cluttered, invest in a glamorous, enlarged picture of something dear to you and let it be the center of attention for your room. Picture It On Canvas offers unique and easy ways to add color, texture and personal touches to your blank walls.

For dorms and apartments, maximizing space for utility is key; however, that does not mean that style has to be compromised. Here are our favorite ways of utilizing Picture it On Canvas to create an edgy and modern vibe to your space:

TV Wall: You already hung your TV on a wall to save space, so how could you possibly have room for art? As fashionistas, having dimension in your house is a must! Place a larger printed canvas behind your TV to create a unique depth to your space. You can always personalize your canvas, but our favorite one would be this faux beach canvas.

Shelf Gallery: Put up shelves to store your miscellaneous knick knacks, books and candles. Help fill in spaces with our favorite slate photos and put your own memories on display. It beats the standard picture frame and adds some unexpected texture.

Distinguish the Space: Create a collage of black and white photos, hang some retro themed signs to go with your decor or create a gallery wall of your favorite photos to make your space pop.

Hosting a Party: Okay, we’ve all been there. There are times when we want to host a party, but out of fear that our white carpet will get stained and furniture broken, we decide not to. Therefore, we suggest creating a canvas that states all of your House Rules for your next party. This pretty canvas will not only keep your house looking snazzy, but it wil make sure your carpet stays clean! This House Rules canvas is one created by Picture It On Canvas, but we suggest customizing and creating your own house rules!

Personalization: This one is a no brainer. Print out your favorite pictures with your roommates and hang it in your living room! This will bring life to your apartment and you will constantly be getting compliments (along the lines of “AWWW”) from guests!

Pinterest without the Work: How many of you struggle to get the perfect DIY down and end up spending more money and supplies than you would have if you purchased the item? Guilty is charged. Have your favorite quotes printed for a chic and motivational space!

With personal photos brought to life on materials other than standard paper, any wall space can be uniquely transformed.
