5 Reasons It’s Okay to Be a Single Lady

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

We all know it, during this season of Cupid and lovey-dovey couples, it can be difficult to be single! But here at Her Campus, we like to think there’s as much value to being single as there is to being in a relationship. Here’s five reasons why we don’t mind a little alone time!

1. It helps you gain perspective. Ever see an ex and wonder why you ever thought you two were a good match, or speculate about what went wrong? Well, your single time is the time to figure out the answers for yourself! Being single gives you the opportunity to find out why past relationships didn’t work out and what you truly want and need in a partner. You now have the opportunity to see which traits you didn’t like in your previous partner and what you’d like to see in in future relationships. Knowing this information will help future future relationships to succeed!

2. You have more time for yourself. This one’s pretty simple. In a relationship and when you invest so much time in someone else, it is hard to pay attention to your needs. Being on your own gives you the opportunity you want to take care of yourself. So treat yourself, read that book you’ve been considering, take up a new hobby, and make moves to make yourself happy. You deserve it!

3. You’ll ace your classes. Not that you left your studies behind…but being in a relationship sometimes takes a little bit away from your study time. This is the time to get that  GPA up!

4. You can try out a new look. We all know we don’t need our significant other’s approval to switch up our looks, but sometimes their thoughts can keep us from making a change. Want to cut or color your hair? Go ahead, girl! You can try anything new, and you won’t have to worry about what your partner will think.

5. You can reconnect with your friends. Being in a relationship makes it easy to spend less time with your friends and with the girls. With no significant other to consider, you can rekindle those friendships that may have been fading. You can go back to a little girl time- after all, friends are forever!

So… embrace the single girl status, collegiettes! This is YOU time!
