Cabin Three, Let’s Go!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSC chapter.

I’m a big fan of the Percy Jackson series though I will admit I’ve kind of forgotten a lot of the story since I finished the series years back in middle school. This week’s theme of Greek mythology and culture, however, has inspired me to reread the series at some point in this quarter. My last memory on the subject was a heated debate with my brother on #Solangelo, the budding romance between a son of Hades and the son of Apollo.

If you’ve ever wondered what house you’d belong to as a demigod attending Camp Half-Blood, here’s a fun buzzfeed quiz to find out! My brother and I both took the quiz and our results kind of made sense (his in particular). My results placed me in Cabin 3, a child of Poseidon (yes!), the god of the sea, while my brother was placed in Cabin 5, a child of Ares, the god of war.

The wisdom from Buzzfeed says, “[I] can move like the sea but [I] never forget the constant friends in [my] life. Plus, [I] have pretty much the coolest half-brother ever” to which I must absolutely agree. Who wouldn’t want to be related to Percy Jackson? Growing up reading the series I was always fascinated with his sword Riptide and how it could transform into a pen that would never fail to appear in his pocket. I believe the previous quote illustrates how a child of Poseidon would have the characteristic of being someone with a strong sense of loyalty and strength in friendships with others despite the flow of time.

My brother’s results were “nothing will stop [him] in a good fight. [He] may seem fierce but [he’s] always got a reason, whether it’s logical or not” which makes sense to me as his sibling and watching him verbally fight it out with my mom. Some fights make sense and others don’t (especially when you’re arguing with family) but he chooses his battles and stands his ground. I think Ares has somewhat a negative association, however children of Ares are known for their strength, bravery, courage, and confidence!

I’d encourage you to try the quiz and learn who your demigod parent would be – maybe there are characteristics and values you agree with, and maybe there are some attributes you don’t. Whatever your results are, being a demigod is amazing (I’d even say more exciting than a wizard) and the world Rick Riordan has created is just so fun and adventurous you’ll have to check out the series as well. To the average human eye it may look like a strawberry field, but if you walk far enough you’ll find an incredible world with new friends, family, and adventure!
