I’ll admit, it was super frustrating when Kylie Jenner wouldn’t reveal her pregnancy. I wanted her to just confirm it because we all saw the baggy shirts and the up-close selfies. We all knew she was pregnant. Thankfully, Kylie finally confirmed the birth of her daughter Stormi after months of waiting. She announced it with a heartfelt note and a video about the past nine months. I may or may not have been screaming and crying when I found out. Now, especially after watching her video, I understand why she wanted to keep her pregnancy private.

I love that Kylie still shared her pregnancy with her fans, but she did it in her own time when she felt ready. She knew that the baby would feel all the stress she felt, so Kylie made the mature choice to not tell the whole world. Kylie is a rebel compared not only to her own family, but to all celebrities. Celebrities are basically expected to announce their pregnancies as soon as possible and share every moment along the way. While there’s nothing wrong with celebrities sharing their private lives, this clearly wasn’t the best option for Kylie. Kylie has always been vocal about how she doesn’t feel like she should be famous. Kylie took a step back from her public life to focus on herself and her child and did what was best for her, even if that’s not the same as what everyone else is doing. Her sisters have usually been very open about their pregnancies (except for Khloe, but at least she confirmed it while she was still pregnant).

If you think about it, Kylie has been on the fast track for a long time. She became the CEO of her own billion dollar company at nineteen years old and now she’s a mother at twenty years old. Kylie’s best friend Jordyn Woods perfectly summed up Kylie’s situation in the pregnancy video when she told Stormi, “When you’re just 20 years old, you’re just figuring out your life. You don’t know what you want…and there was one thing that your mom knew for sure and that was you.”

Kylie lives such a unique life in front of the public eye, which she didn’t even ask for in the first place. It makes sense why she would want to slow down and focus on motherhood without pressure from the whole world. Kylie chose to handle her pregnancy on her own terms. I admire her maturity and independence, and that shows how great of a mother she already is and will be
