Whether you are casually dating, meeting up with someone from Tinder, or going out with the same person for the 100th time, planning a perfect date in Isla Vista that is exciting for the both of you is certainly within reach. Even though the total area of IV is only a little over a mile radius, date possibilities are endless. If you are an IV resident in need of date ideas, or just want to spice up your love life, then here are some great ideas for plans that are certain to be both exciting and fulfilling.

PICNICS

If you are an IV resident, you know there are places around our little community with some gorgeous views, and a gorgeous view equals the perfect setting for a wholesome picnic. Locations around IV for setting up your picnic include Sea Lookout Park, anywhere along the trail heading towards Sands Beach, Campus Point, or even the grassy field next to the lagoon on UCSB’s campus.

So grab a blanket, a speaker, some snacks, and head over to a scenic spot with your date for a lovely time. To elevate your picnic experience, bring some art supplies and get your creative juices flowing! Even if you and your date aren’t Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, making art with a partner is a fun and expressive way to show some individuality.

SUNSET WALK

There is something about IV sunsets that just hits different! When sky conditions are good, the sunsets around here are absolutely immaculate, showing different shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, and even purple. With your date, meet up for a pleasant walk and talk along the trail towards Sands Beach for a stellar view of the sunset. Sunset walks are free, simple, and great chance to get to know one another on a deeper level.

TRIVIA NIGHT / KARAOKE

Do you and your date want something intellectually stimulating? If yes, then on Thursdays at 9 PM head over to Woodstock Pizza for free trivia, prizes, and 9 dollar pitchers (if you and your date are 21, of course). Together you can brainstorm and test each other’s knowledge of random facts!

If you and your date are brave souls who enjoy singing your hearts out, then I recommend checking out Rockfire Grill on Wednesday nights from 8 PM to 12 AM for some karaoke (resuming March 2nd, 2022). Even if you two are too shy to sing a song, just grab some food and drinks and watch others perform. This is incredibly entertaining and guaranteed to be a great time.

The ideas I provided are just a fraction of what Isla Vista has to offer in terms of dating. While it is a small community, there are plenty of things to do with someone that are fun and affordable. Get out there, be creative with it, and have fun. Happy dating!
