Local Isla Vista Woman-Run Businesses You Should Support

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you might be spending all of your time (and money) online shopping to keep up with all of the Instagram and TikTok trends. Next time you open that new tab on your computer, think about shopping locally instead, and if you’re unsure of where to start, take a look at these Isla Vista companies run by local women!

Sunroom the Label

If you spend all of your time at the beach and are looking for a new bikini to hit the waves or to tan in, you need to check out Sunroom the Label at @sunroomthelabel on Instagram. Shea, the creator behind Sunroom the Label, hand makes sustainable swimsuits out of recycled materials found in the ocean like fishing nets and plastic bottles. The best part is, these pieces are customizable and can be made in any size, so they’re super inclusive of all customers! Keep an eye out for their new collections, which drop every few months and feature new styles and colors.

Zeni Jewelry

If jewelry is more your style, check out Zeni Jewelry at @zeni_jewelry on Instagram. It’s a local business run by two local women, Abby Paytas and Zandra Marshall. Their company creates sustainably handcrafted silver and gemstone jewelry, which can be customized by you! Their spring collection was just released and the pieces are perfect for birthdays or Mother’s Day gifts.

Isla Vista Crystals

Since crystals are all the rage right now, you can’t miss this last IV business: Isla Vista Crystals at @islavistacrystals on Instagram! This women-owned business sells the most incredible crystals, and they include a description of the healing powers of each stone! The owners, Ania and Grace, do everything themselves, from managing their socials to sales and packaging! If you love learning about crystals or just need some new pieces to add to your room decor, this company is the perfect place to go. They also visit frequent local markets, so keep an eye out for updates on their Instagram on where they’ll be next!

If you want to find more local gems to support, you should definitely join the Facebook page IV HUSTLES, which is a forum for small business owners and student-run companies to post their creations and services. Shop small, shop local, and support your community while finding unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for you and your friends!
