Whether your hair is dead because you dyed it multiple times or use heat tools everyday there is good news! There are lots of little things that you can do nurse your hair back to health. I always hear people talk about their hair is really “dead” but with small changes you can turn around the health of your hair and have it all shiny and healthy again. Here are some tips and suggestions that you can use!

Don’t forget to get that trim!

It is important to get a trim every once in while to get rid of those split ends. If you leave the split ends, they could potentially lead to longer and longer splits which no one likes to have. Salon professionals also have the right tools and skills to trim your hair to make it look healthier. Trimming your hair can also allow your hair to grow longer.

Don’t wash your hair everyday (or don’t wash it with shampoo everyday).

As gross as this sounds, you shouldn’t wash your hair everyday because everytime you do, you strip important oils that contributes to making your hair and scalp moisturized. Many of you might say that you use a conditioner, but, not many people actually leave the conditioner in their hair for a long time before washing it out. Leaving your hair with a little extra oil can protect and condition your hair! If you really feel like washing it, you can do a quick rinse in water. Another option for hiding that oil is using some dry shampoo to soak up a little of the oil! Batiste is a dry shampoo that beauty gurus live by.

Try using heat protectant in your hair if you’re using heat tools.

Using some heat protectant can help prepare and protect your hair from the intense heat from heat tools such as straighteners, curlers, and blow-dryers. Otherwise, you are exposing your highly delicate hair to lots of heat and potentially frying it. There are lots of argan and moroccan oil related products that you can put in your hair to replenish some of the oils that were stripped away. And if you have smelled them before, doesn’t that stuff smell amazing?!

Let your hair air dry more often and try some leave in conditioners!

Letting your hair air dry takes away the amount of stress your hair has to be under from strong continuous heat being blasted at your hair. This could also lead to less split ends because your hair would not be as dry. Another way to make your hair look more shiny and moisturized is to try leave in conditioners or doing deep conditions at least twice a month. By doing these conditions, you get a chance to actually absorb this good stuff and let the results show!

Shield your hair from the sun!

UCSB is literally right next to the beach and who doesn’t like to take a stroll or tan next to the glistening waters? But with these beautiful views, our hair has to suffer the consequences of the sun’s strong rays coming down on our heads and drying our hair. Long sun exposure can discolor and dry out hair so putting on a hat can help protect your hair (and your skin too)! You can also look for products with sun-protection as well (basically like sunscreen but for your hair) to protect your hair.

Don’t dye your hair as often or if you do, use a color conditioner treatment!

When you dye or highlight your hair, you put your hair through a lot because of the harsh chemicals in the process. With every dye, your hair is stripped of its nutrients and moisture which drys out your hair. When you dye your hair less, you are able to replenish some of the oils and moisture, and not do so much damage. You can also accomplish this by doing a conditioning treatment targeted for people with color treated hair to lock in some moisture and revitalize your hair!

With these tips, I hope you all can bring some life back into your hair! Have a wonderful weekend, collegiettes!
