Why It Is So Important To Keep In Contact With Your High School Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

We’ll keep in contact! Text me! We need to hang out soon! These are all words that people say to their friends from high school, but they get so caught up in college and their new life, that everything they’ve promised never happens. It’s the same sob story. People go to college and maybe text their high school friends a little bit, but eventually everything slows down, until the only time you see them is the occasional post on Instagram. People have many different reasons for stopping to reach out to their high school friends, but there are so many reasons that I’ve continued to stay in contact with my high school friends.

I know that college has changed me, and that I am not exactly the same person that I was in high school. But, my high school friends help me stay grounded. Being around them and talking to them helps me remember that I grew up with them, and they will always be there to accept me no matter how much I change or who I become.

Even though I have made new friends and changed, there are still many aspects of me that are the same person. I still have my same favorite foods, and my go-to movie, same favorite color. My high school friends still know that, and still know how to comfort me. Stay in contact with your high school friends, because while many things have changed since you’ve graduated from high school, you don’t have the power to control all of those things. But what you can do is make sure that the friendship that you have with these friends remain.

High school was full of embarrassing times for many of us, and if those friends stay by you even through those times, you know that they’ll continue to stay by you through anything! There’s nothing more comforting than knowing that someone has your back, and you will always have a friend backing you up. Your high school friends may be real and genuine, and even if you’re all the way across the country from them, make an effort to not lose contact with them.

Things are really different from how they used to be. You meet new people, and people may have a different impression of you. Your high school friends, however, know you, and will always be there to keep you grounded. Don’t lose touch with friends who have known you for so long.

With so many things changing around you, it’s always a source of comfort to have things that you know will never change. Your high school friends, and the traditions that you guys have, doesn’t have to change if you don’t let it, so find solace in that, and make sure you don’t stray too far from these friends.
