This year, the University of California is offering twenty-two online courses that you can sign up for in the winter quarter, which will satisfy graduation requirements at several campuses. UCLA will be hosting one of the online courses in spring quarter, an upper division political science class. The UC has obtained $10 million from the state budget to fund this initiative, which will help the UC combat issues that arise from increasing enrollment, such as classes rapidly filling up before the students’ enrollment times, and lecture halls with not enough seats. A portion of the funding will go toward providing TAs for each university to facilitate on-campus discussions. The UC tried to curb the issue of increasing enrollment by constructing UC Merced in 2005, but in the long run, building new UC campuses is not a sustainable solution.
