‘Summer Night’ Premieres at Rom Com Fest in Los Angeles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

On Friday, June 21st, we had the pleasure of attending the first ever Rom Com Fest at the Downtown Independent Theater in Los Angeles. The event, which celebrates romantic comedies for being entertaining and full of love, lasted all weekend. The idea of the whole event is to allow guests to relax and enjoy all the favorite rom coms, while indulging in the cheesiness that comes with the genre.

The film festival features new films like Summer Night and In Reality, and old, classic films like 10 Things I Hate About You and How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Each film even had a fun element accompanying it. There was a screening of Bride Wars before Summer Night, and if guests wore all white, they got a ring pop to celebrate! Guests were also encouraged to dress up in their best 20’s garb for the screening of In Reality.

The festival was founded by the same team as Dessert Goals, which means every screening came with yummy dessert! We indulged in some mochi and other sweet drinks and desserts before heading into the screening of the film! We even played some guessing games and had a photo op with a fun set up of a director’s chair.

After participating in the fun activities outside of the theater, we went in to watch the screening of Summer Night! The film, featuring Analeigh Tipton, Hayden Szeto, Victoria Justice, Lana Condor and more, follows several young romantic relationships during one summer night. The couples go through the troubles of keeping a relationship alive while trying to navigate what they want for their futures. The film is set to an amazing soundtrack and even features several performances from real-life bands! Needless to say, the music is the real love story of this film.

Overall, the entire event was one full of love and the celebration of it through film. All throughout the venue were classic rom com quotes, and the vibes were great! We can’t wait to come back next year!
