5 Songs That Will Give You The Summer Vibes You Need

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

It might be summer, but it really does not feel like it. Of course, staying home for an extended period of time and not being able to go on adventures with your friends may seem boring, but you can still experience summer through music! I am an avid music listener, and I believe that music has the ability to change your mood. With the ongoing pandemic, summer may just feel like any other season, but here are a few songs that might just give you those summer vibes:

“Summertime In Paris” by Jaden Smith and Willow Smith

This song literally has the word “summertime” in it, so what more do I need to say? This song is perfect to blast in your room at night or just for a late night drive. Both Jaden Smith’s and Willow Smith’s voices blend well together. I remember at the beginning of May, I was obsessed with this song and would put it on a constant repeat. This song just has that ability to get you to move your shoulders and sing along to the lyrics without you even realizing it. It fits the feeling for a relaxed summer when you just want to lie down on the grass and stare at the sky.

“Aliso” by Dylan Jordan

Aliso is a type of tree, and this song really embodies the idea of exploration. When I first listened to the song, all I wanted to do was take a drive near the beach and just admire nature and bask in the calmness of the waves of the ocean. The ukulele and the sound of waves at the beginning of the song transport you to a beach in your head. This song makes you feel content, but it also makes you want to go out and explore. Dylan Jordan’s soft voice creates a calm feeling within, and his sound just makes the song feel like a dream.

“Off the Grid” by Alina Baraz and Khalid

I am in love with this song. The harmony between Alina Baraz and Khalid is so heavenly that I always repeat that one part of the song. This song is also just right for either a late night drive or to just blast in your room in the dark. When I listen to this song, I think about sitting on a hill at night and looking down at the city lights. If not on a hill, I would go to my backyard at night and lie down on the grass to observe the stars while listening. Once you listen to this song and its lyrics, you will feel that the atmosphere of the song is really one of peace. It is truly a song that you would play to surround yourself with good company and positive energy.

“Weekend” by Louis the Child and Icona Pop

This song is very energetic and just makes you want to get up and dance. Because the genre is electronic dance music (EDM), it will definitely get you moving quick. This song will give you an adventurous feeling to do anything and everything. At least for me, when I listen to this song, I get feelings of spontaneity. It is a great song to blast when you are feeling energetic and you just want to dance. Especially since the song itself is named “weekend,” I think it feels like you’re experiencing a Friday night of adventures- even on a weekday.

“2002” by Anne-Marie

Listen to this song when you feel nostalgic. The lyrics and beat of the song makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. It makes me think of previous memories, but it also makes me excited to try new things with family and friends. When you see 2002, you will be immediately taken back to your childhood and so this song is the perfect embodiment of memories.

Music makes everything better. Even though this summer may not be your ideal summer, it does not mean that it’s entirely canceled. Just by listening to these songs, you will feel some sort of excitement for the summer season. Make this summer a memorable one, and begin with listening to some songs that will give you those summer vibes.
