The climate crisis is here, and it continues to affect the world in so many ways. It’s become increasingly apparent that climate issues are growing and becoming more and more present in our daily lives. This can be an overwhelming thing to take in, but there are some small things you can do to help, like living more sustainably. Here are my top 5 ways to live a more sustainable life:

Switch to Reusable Water Bottles

This is probably one of the easiest things you can do to live more sustainably. It’s a very easy switch, and you can fill your bottle up virtually anywhere. Using reusable bottles instead of plastic ones also saves you money in the long run.

Shop at the Farmer’s Market When You Can

Farmer’s markets usually pop up on the weekends, and there are so many good ones in the Orlando area! They aren’t only a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors; you’re also supporting local farmers and small businesses. Produce and other foods from local farmers are usually much more sustainably-grown than the produce you find at grocery stores.

Use Reusable Grocery Bags

Reusable grocery bags are another great and easy way to reduce your amount of single-use plastic. There are many different options and styles sold at various stores — they can even be repurposed to satisfy any additional bag-related needs. Some stores also offer a discount for using your own bags!

Go Meatless For a Day (or More)

Meat production uses a lot more water than plant-based alternatives. The meat production industry contributes to massive amounts of pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and habitat destruction. While cutting out meat entirely isn’t attainable for some people, just going meatless for one day or even one meal can make an impact!

Reuse Glass Jars and Containers

Some foods or makeup and skincare products come in glass jars and containers. These are great for repurposing; they’re extremely useful and versatile, and they last a long time. You can use them to store food in your cabinets and pantry, store cleaning products, make jams or pickle foods — there are so many different options!

There are a ton of other ways to be more sustainable and help to protect the environment, but these are just a few easy changes. It’s important to note that if you have any single-use plastic and you plan to switch to a reusable alternative, don’t throw them away until you’ve used them, or it’s even more wasteful.
