How To Recover From A Bad Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Maybe you were alone on Valentine’s Day. Maybe a hookup went wrong. Maybe you were underwhelmed by the amount of effort your significant other put into your celebration. Regardless of what left you hurting on February 14th, it’s now in the past.

When you break it down, Valentine’s Day is literally just a day. The sun came up in the morning and went down at night, just as it does every other day. Some days are better than others, and every year we hope Valentine’s Day will make it on our list of good days. If February 14th didn’t make the list, that doesn’t mean February 15th has to follow suit.

If you didn’t have anyone to spend V-Day with and it left you feeling lonely and bummed, maybe you should take a different approach to Valentine’s Day. This holiday is intended for the celebration of love. Therefore, it is important that you receive the love you deserve, no matter where it comes from. If you were lacking love on Valentine’s Day, don’t be afraid to give some to yourself! Buy yourself a red dress and dip some strawberries in chocolate. Combine your self-love with some Valentine’s Day crafting, and make a jar full of reasons why you’re awesome and loveable. Not only will this be a great mood booster in the moment, but you’ll also have those reminders the next time you’re feeling down in the dumps.

If you had a bad Valentine’s Day with your significant other, you could be facing some of the same issues. Regardless of your relationship status, it is important that you feel loved. If your partner isn’t giving you the kind of love you need, it’s time to speak up. Stephen Chbosky spoke a lot of truth when he said, “We accept the love we think we deserve”. It’s okay to admit that you are unsatisfied. As tempting as it may be, don’t keep quiet if you were disappointed this Valentine’s Day. The only way to fix it is to talk about it.

If you feel like you were underappreciated on Valentine’s Day, you are probably stuck with a mix of emotions like disappointment and embarrassment. You should never feel embarrassed or like you are unworthy if somebody isn’t giving you the kind of attention you deserve. Instead, you should make a plan about how to get it.

The keys to getting through this Valentine’s Day are realizing your self worth, and then communicating it. Sometimes you have to fight a little bit for your own happiness. It can be scary, but it’s worth it in the end.
