High-Low Skirts; Go or No Go?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

When the high-low trend first emerged, I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about these unique skirts. In the beginning, this trend almost looked awkward to me. I thought to myself, why would I want to wear a skirt that looks like it just went through a shredder? Boy, was I wrong! Despite my initial thoughts, I have grown to wear and love this trend. High-low skirts are actually an awesome and chic clothing essential to have in your closet. They can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.

One of the many great things about this trend is that it is able to flatter almost any size, shape or body type. Whether you have sexy curves or a slender build, there are features of these skirts that cater to you. The high, open front allows you to show off your legs (and cute shoes!), while the loose, flowy back end of the skirt will flatter a curvy behind. This is one of few clothing items that are universally flattering and can be worn by almost anyone! This trend is mostly worn by collegiettes™ in their early twenties. However, since it is so flattering and easy to throw on, I can see it making its way into the closets of older fashionistas who are looking for fast and easy ways to dress for success.

Many collegiettes™ are a little intimidated by this craze because they are not quite sure how to style these fun and flirty skirts. The great thing about high-low skirts is that depending on how you style them they are appropriate for almost any outing.

Pairing them with a flattering crop top and a pair of pumps makes them a perfect clothing item for a night out on the town.

Wear your high-low skirt with a pair of wedges and a flowy blouse for date night. Spice up your outfit with some trendy accessories and you are good to go!

High-low skirts are perfect for a casual daytime outfit if paired with a simple tee or tank and flats. (Throw on a blazer after dark for an easy day-to-night transition!)

As you can see, there are many ways you can wear a single high-low skirt. You can find these skirts in local boutiques such as Francesca’s and Stahli. I would personally recommend looking around for cheaper options at places like TJ Maxx and Forever 21. It’s hard to predict how long this bold trend will last, so there’s no need to spend a fortune on them. There’s a good chance that this style won’t emerge again after the wintertime, so be sure to hop on the bandwagon before high-low skirts go out of style!
