Her Fashion: Lovely In Lace

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Lace: A delicate and feminine fabric that has been used for years. Its applications are infinite, making it a fabric that will be used for generations to come. When thinking of lace, I like most people think of the 80’s, neon accents, and teased hair. Think Madonna.

Now, fast-forward a couple decades to 2012. Lace trends have evolved and become more of a focal piece than an accessory. Whether you’re wearing a classic white lace-detailed dress for fashion week in Milan, or walking the streets of New York City head to toe in black lace and leather, the look is very fashion forward.

This collegiette is wearing two lace patterns. Her skirt is embellished with a black lace trim that transforms it from simple to a little more edgy. Moving down to the stockings, we see a very popular trend of patterned lace. Moving away from classic lace stockings, women are starting to wear stockings with floral, animal print and other various patterns. The leather boots compliment the look with the straps and buckles that provide an edgy look.

So, I say don’t be afraid of this fabric, there are many ways to morph it to your style. Have fun, and push boundaries. That’s what fashion is all about!
