1. Not that Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
This is an incredible book. It’s a memoir by Lena Dunham, the creator and writer of the HBO series, Girls. I truly think that Lena’s strength is her writing, and this book proves it. She talks about losing her virginity, finding herself in college, trying to overcome her body image issues, and what its like to be a woman working in a male-dominated industry.
2. The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan.
This book is simply beautiful. It a collection of fictional and nonfictional stories written by Marina Keegan, a student at Yale. She tragically died in a car accident shortly after graduating. Her voice is intelligent, youthful, and bright. I’m so sad that Marina died because I love her writing, but what she left behind speaks volumes.
3. Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso
Sophia is the creator and founder of Nastygal.com, a huge women’s clothing retailer. This book tells Sophia’s personal story and also gives you amazing career and life advice in Sophia’s trademark; the sassy, no BS style.
4. Is Everyone Hanging out without me? By Mindy Kaling
This book is Mindy Kaling’s memoir. It covers her childhood, college years, and years that she spent as a writer and actress on The Office. It’s laugh out loud funny and sends an awesome message to girls that, if there isn’t a role for you, make it yourself!
5. Bossypants by Tina Fey
This is the funniest book that I have ever read. Tina Fey is a genius. This book tells stories about her growing up, her college years, and beyond.
