What are you involved with on campus?
I am a singer and public relations officer for the Lounge Lizards a Capella group. I also just joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
How long have you been a part of the Lounge Lizards?
I joined in my first quarter at Davis. This is my second year with them.
What part do you sing, what style of music is your favorite to sing with the group?
Alto 2 and occasionally I sing tenor. I love singing ballad-y pop songs.
What is the a Capella community like at UC Davis?
Everyone is really supportive. We attend each other’s concerts and invite each other to perform at events. We have a group concert at the end of the year where every group is highlighted. Every group is unique. The community is great and there is a place for everyone.
How was the group formed? What does the group do?
We are the oldest group on campus founded in 1995 in the Tercero dorms. There are currently 13 members of the group. We are one of the larger groups and we are co-ed. We generally sing pop songs, but last year we sang a few jazz pieces which were really interesting to learn. We are non-competitive but we love performing in gigs locally. We have sang with UCSCs group Acquire and UCB’s decadence who are great to collaborate with. We have also gone to LA to a workshop to improve our skills. We pride ourselves on being derpy and love singing together.
What exciting things do Lounge Lizards have planned for this year?
Our main concert will be in winter quarter. It’s called “No Instruments Attached”. It will be our 21st anniversary. We will be performing at the upcoming Liquid Hotplates concert “Alottacapella”. We might be singing on buses and around Davis, keep an eye out for us…we might surprise you!
If The Lounge Lizards could sing with any guest artist who would it be?
We sing some Muse songs so joining forces with them would be a good idea for us. We also have a member of the group who does a mean Christopher Walken impression so if they could meet, that would be hilarious.
