After taking 20 units of coursework, holding three officer positions in different clubs, and a virtual job, I have finally admitted to myself that I am, in fact, stressed. I am pleased to report that this winter quarter in the city of Davis was not too cold. Rain and wind were minimal, excluding that one city-wide power outage, and my only complaint still stands – the drop in temperatures. Following up on my previous article, “Winter Quarter Sucks!”, I mentioned how many students will experience Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, for short. With an early established quarantine friend group, I am thankful to have had limited social interactions with my housemates and our closest friends. I was able to enjoy the quarter with them, and I felt like I was thriving socially.

This quarter, I took on a lot of workloads for myself. As much as I enjoy online classes, it can be hard to keep up with every single lecture. Knowing this, even if I missed a lecture, I took notes on every piece of information given. The amount of homework this quarter was overwhelming. As a statistics major, I have to code in R programming language. You can always find me sitting at my computer typing in some code. Although morale is low, I enjoy coding and making graphs, finding the mean, etc. Seeing the plots made by a few lines of code that I’ve written makes me feel accomplished.

As you may be able to tell, I’m keeping a positive outlook on even the littlest things. Along with my feelings of accomplishment, I am doing very well compared to the past winter quarters, finals permitting. I am hoping to study and finish assignments to finish the quarter off strong. Finals week is just around the corner after daylight savings time begins. I’ve been waking up at a pretty solid time, which can be said more than last quarter. I hope that that one-hour difference does not affect me too much.

Push through! I believe in you! No matter how you felt about winter quarter, look on the bright side. Spring quarter is coming. Spring quarter is by far the happiest time of the year. Not just because of the weather, not because we completed the worst quarter, but because something about spring quarter sparks joy. Spring quarter entails the last quarter of online classes, which you may also want to take to your advantage. There are so many upsides to warm weather, such as shorts! And of course the warm weather. I love spring cleaning and being able to go outside without the fear of being cold. LA girl at heart, for sure. It’s already getting warmer, and the sun is shining through the clouds.

One of my favorite things to do during spring is open all the blinds in my house and let the sunshine in. It’s the little things that boost my serotonin levels. I feel so much at ease, and it just puts a smile on my face.
