11 Ways UC Davis is Already Great

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

Trump claims that he will “Make America Great Again.” Little does he know of all the amazing accomplishments UC Davis staff and students have already accomplished in just one year. If Trump ever visited the UC Davis campus, he would instantly change his mind about what makes a campus or a culture in America great. Here are 11 ways UC Davis is already great:

1. The Memorial Union finished construction and emerged with a fantastic new bookstore that is already beloved by students.

2. Those notorious Saturday finals were cancelled.

3. Major changes shook up the chancellorship as former chancellor Linda P. B. Katehi resigned. This just goes to show how strong the student voice is here at UCD.

4. ASUCD scored Chance the Rapper to perform at our very own ARC Pavilion.

5. More than 100 gender-neutral restrooms were installed in several buildings across campus.

6. UC Davis ranked #4 leader in the world in environmental stability by GreenMetric rankings.

7. UC Davis Veterinary Science ranked #1 in the world… again

8. Forbes named UCD the top college for women in STEM

9. UC Davis is ranked amongst the top 10 public universities in the nation. We tied with UC San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and University of Wisconsin-Madison for the 10th slot.

10. The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is complete and scheduled to open to the public in November. It will be a hub for creativity and showcasing innovation and art.

11. The Ann E. Pitzer Center’s lecture hall is complete and in use, holding around 400 students.

Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not great, Aggies! We’ve got tons to be proud of just this year.

Maria is a fourth year at University of California, Davis where she is double majoring in Economics and Comparative Literature. When she's not studying for her classes or writing up an article, you can find her playing soccer with her friends, working with the UCD School of Education or chowing down on some delicious Thai food with her roommates.
