Last year, I was in a really toxic and stressful environment. Every time I would think about quitting somehow I’d manage to talk myself out of it since I needed the money. Finally, it reached a point where I would actually hate being at my job and it was starting to negatively affect my mental health. This is when I knew it was time to find a new job because the one I had just was not good for me. It took me a while to reach this conclusion so I want to help others know when it’s okay to quit their job.

  1. If It’s A Toxic Environment

I was in a toxic work environment but would look over it. This is a key red flag as to why not continue with your job. If it is negatively affecting your health the way it did with me then it’s not a good job. My job was at a point where if I wanted to talk to my supervisor they would be very condescending in response to me. They would make me feel as if I wasn’t trying hard enough just because the job was not my number one priority.

  1. If You’ve Found Something Better

If you are offered a better job or find a better job, it’s okay to quit. You don’t have to stay with the same job forever when something better has come along. This allows for more growth and opportunities. And you don’t need to feel bad about this because you know that your current job has prepared you for the future.

  1. If You Have Too Much On Your Plate

If you have other priorities which are pulling you back from your job, it’s okay to quit. I know, despite being in a bad work environment, this is something that I was dealing with since I had classes, internships and I had to apply for graduate school. Juggling all these tasks was a little difficult for me and so I thought it would be best to focus on things that will actually benefit me in the future.

These are some of the reasons why it’s okay to quit your job. Everyone has their own reasons why but these are some of the ones that I have dealt with when leaving my job and initially I would feel guilty but now I know it was to better myself.
