Celebrity Relationships Have Lost Their Spark

The overexposure of celebrity relationships is not anything new. Gossip sites and tabloids are fairly well known for spreading rumors about Hollywood stars’ romantic lives. Current celeb couples like Taylor Swift and Matty Healy and Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have been everywhere in the headlines recently. Even if there is a goal behind the scenes of gaining public support for these newfound celebrity romances, there is also another side to it that feels very off putting.

Celebrity “power couples” are few and far between despite headlines pushing for every latest pair to be one. When there are so many details about a romance leaked to the press, it can be hard to take a relationship seriously let alone root for two people to be together. And it doesn’t help when one of the respective parties has their ongoing controversies. *Cough* I’m looking at you Taylor and Matty

While pop culture gossip is fun to an extent, learning an abundant amount of information about people you don’t know personally can be annoying as an average media consumer. It feels slightly hypocritical for someone like Taylor Swift to be so open with a relationship after advocating for her own privacy for years prior to this, most notably in her documentary Miss Americana. However, no matter how much criticism arises from fans, it seems like everyone is trying to be the next big it couple.

Are there any celebrity couples that do not rely on over the top fanfare? Speaking of Taylor Swift, she did say it best in her song from Midnights, “Paris.” Romance really might not be dead if you keep it just yours. It is safe to assume the best celebrity relationships keep a low profile. And besides, there is so much more celebrity gossip than who is dating who for everyone to fawn over.
