An Introvert’s Guide To Navigating College

College is the best time to experience new things, get out of your comfort zone, and meet tons of new people. While there may be social pressure to go out with friends all the time, it is perfectly fine to spend time with yourself.

Find a quiet place to relax

Being able to find a place to relax after a long day is essential. One of my favorite places is the third floor of Orbach Library. It is a great place to enjoy alone time and to recharge. Being in a quiet environment can help you rejuvenate your energy after a long day of classes or being around crowds of people.

Join Clubs

It is important to surround yourself with the right people and to find those who match your energy level. Joining clubs is the best way to meet new people, but it is just as important to find clubs that interest you and make you feel comfortable. Before you join, you can find all clubs on HighlanderLink at UC Riverside. Clubs impact your college experience at UCR and it would be best to take advantage of opportunities to meet new people who match with your personality.

Make plans to meet with friends

Being able to meet friends is important for overall well-being. You create long-lasting memories with friends in college. Whether it be grabbing lunch or watching a movie, having a social support system in college will come a long way for your well-being, and there’s nothing better than having a few close friends to share everything with.

Embrace your Introversion

There is nothing wrong with enjoying peaceful, low-energy environments and settings. College is hectic and there are tons of things happening in front of us all the time. You can have a great college experience hanging out with a few friends at home rather than attend a large party.

College is a time to embrace who you are and find ways to make the most of your experience. Find your own people who help you grow and improve and become the best version for yourself. It is about the quality of friends rather than quality of friends. Being introverted has its own perks and everyone should embrace this quality about themselves.
