Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Taking twenty-minutes out of your day to reflect upon the people and things you’re grateful for can make you happier than anyone else. Whether you are thinking about the things you’re grateful for, or writing down thoughts in your diary or journal will make you feel as if you’ve done something that changed the world or yourself. Just thinking about gratitude itself will promote positive life experiences when you are feeling down. Second, expressing gratitude will increase your self-worth and self-esteem.

Many people think that they are not as good as others when it comes to getting good grades, but this is a narrow-minded view of yourself. Have you looked at the things you’ve done that have made you proud or what the people around you can’t do but you can? Everyone is unique in their own way and it’s up to you to decide which path you take and what you think of yourself when being compared to others. People will always say and comment on certain things and that’s because they’re jealous of what you have and who you are. So just be grateful that you are who you are and that the people and things you have are there to make and shape you.

Lastly, not only can the act of writing down the things you’re grateful for boost your happiness, but it can also spread and affect others around you. Being able to appreciate what you have and not take for granted the people in your life will really make your life easier and help you live through every day with a bright smile on your face.

Hi! My name is Nat and I am a third year student at UC Irvine. I'm proud to call sunny Los Angeles my hometown.  I love being a tourist in my own city; going to museums, trying new places to eat, and exploring locations for cute photo-ops!
