It’s that time in the quarter in which we forget what sleep means, when to eat properly, and what time it is. In other words, Finals Week is coming up and it is the prime time to freak out! But, we can’t forget to take care of ourselves. Here are some tips to feel good and still do well during finals week.

1. Have a schedule

It may sound silly to make a schedule for your studying hours, but it works! Planning the days leading up the exams can help you feel like you have control over your life. Don’t let studying consume you and remember that taking breaks is good for you. Schedule what time you’re going to wake up, when you’re going to eat, or when to take a break. Your agenda might look overwhelming, but at least your life will be in order.

2. Don’t freak out!

During finals week (and even before), stress levels shoot to the roof because you want those A’s on those tests. You’re probably always dwelling on the fact that the exam is literally worth half your grade. Just remember, staying cool, calm and collected will help you memorize what you need to learn and not forget the material when the moment comes. If you feel like you are stressing too much over exams, remind yourself that it does not define you. Going outside and walking a bit can also help clear your mind.

3. Don’t make anything less important

Just because you feel like you know the material, it does not mean that you don’t have to study. Study for each exam regardless of how well you know the material and don’t underestimate any of them.

4. Coffee is not your best friend

Surprisingly, especially in a time of need, coffee should not be your best friend during finals week. Don’t rely on a drink to stay awake in order to study more. Although coffee can be a good source of caffeine, forcefully depriving yourself of sleep is not healthy.

5. Dress up to take the exam

I know that it sounds ridiculous to get all dressed up for an 8 am exam, but it honestly makes you feel more confident. Think about it this way, whether or not you failed or did great on the exam, at least you looked pretty darn good doing it.

6. You are not a grade

Do not ever forget that a grade does not define you or your level of knowledge. An exam does not define what you have actually learned from the class. Regardless of what grade you get in the end, if you feel that you know the subject and you understand it, then that is all that should matter to you because it shows that you are still getting a great education.
