Freezing cold, I shook off the water like a wet dog. Dunking in Memorial Fountain at 3 a.m. was not how I pictured ending my Friday night.

Chronicling my day so far, it started like any other. When I met up with my friends, everything was normal. But then it came out—the bucket list.

A few weeks ago, my friends at Georgia Tech started a freshman year challenge. Whoever racks up the most points wins. We adjusted some of the dares to match the Berkeley campus and our own capabilities.

The rules are simple:

  1. Every task has a different point value.
  2. First person to finish a task gets an extra point.
  3. No proof necessary, just be honest (no cheating!).
  4. Starts November 10th and ends with freshman year.
  5. Winner is whoever has the most points and gets a party in their name.

Not ready to go to sleep, we made our trek from the dorm to Memorial Glade.

Shivering, excited, and now wet, I sprung up from the fountain completely soaked.

This might not seem appealing to everyone, but I can attest that this bucket list has added a necessary spark in our college lives. Going to school can be stressful and monotonous, but this list has provided us with an outlet.

As such, as we walked back to the dorm in our waterlogged clothing, we had nothing but smiles spreading across our faces.

This bucket list is more than just a list. It brings us closer together, pushes us out of our comfort zone, and lets us enjoy the craziest moments of our lives.

Even if you don’t have a list, you don’t need one. Just allow yourself to live your life and not get caught up in the stress that can threaten to overwhelm you. Be present, be kind to yourself, and remember: you only live once.
