It’s that time of year again… Summer is tragically slipping away with each gust of cool wind. The time for swimming in Strawberry Canyon pool and sunbathing on Memorial glade has come and gone. Living in the golden state we rarely get to witness the changing of the seasons. There a few trees attempting the majestic transformation to orange and yellow and at least a few leaf piles are appetizing and crunchy enough to jump into, but in comparison to the California sunshine we seem to forget about fall. Here are some activities and treats to remind us why fall is actually the best season of them all!

Festive Food

Let’s be honest, we all look forward to seasonal drinks at Starbucks. My number one favorite activity for this time of year is, hitting up the local coffee joint and ordering a Pumpkin Spice Chai, a Cinnamon Gingerbread Latte or Salted Caramel Mocha. Bakeries go wild with fall themed spices and even Ici on College Ave serves scrumptiously unique ice cream to match the season.

Pumpkin Power

Pumpkin patches, pumpkin pie, pumpkin carving—the possibilities are endless! Not only does pumpkin flavor in general dominate what we eat these few months, but pumpkins also provide fun and entertaining activities. Check out the Piedmont Avenue Pumpkin Patch in Oakland (http://www.fpe.cc) the Halloween one stop shop for pumpkin carving, decorations and even a spooky haunted house!

Get Toasty

When you can hear the rain pounding on the roof or the crisp autumn breeze is a bit too chilly, there is nothing more appealing than wrapping up in cozy sweater and snuggling into bed. Whether it’s cuddling up with your favorite book or that special someone, enjoying the warmth and safety of being bundled under the comfy covers.

Tantalizing Treats

Imagine the enticing aroma of freshly baked chocolate cookies emanating from the oven, filling your nostrils with pure delight and warming your soul. Or maybe it’s cinnamon apple muffins. Or banana bread. Or a triple chocolate fudge cake! If you have access to a kitchen, break out the cookbooks and treat yourself to homemade deliciousness.

Homecoming and Coming Home

Autumn in college means football season and going crazy for the Golden Bears! But it also means that Thanksgiving is coming up quick and we all get the chance to go home to our families and celebrate. For those of us mid semester feeling a little homesick, a break from the midterm madness and into the family frenzy is just around the corner.

If I still haven’t convinced you of all the wonders this glorious season has to offer, then go outside and tell me that the crisp scent of fall air doesn’t invigorate you. If it’s raining then slip into those fashion forward rainboots and tell you don’t want to jump in puddles. Just because you can’t get tan doesn’t mean you can’t be a fall fan!
