When a Northerner Experiences a Warm Winter For the First Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UBC chapter.

Did you know that there are places in North America that have extremely warm winters? I always knew that these places existed, but I never really believed how warm they actually are in December. Although the coldness of our winters vary in Canada (us Vancouverties experience a pretty mild winter), it gets cold during the winter pretty much everywhere in Canada during this time of the year. So, when one of us Canadians experiences a warm winter for the first time, it is quite an experience.

Even checking our weather app over and over can’t convince us that it is actually that warm outside. There is no possible way it is 25 degrees Celsius in December right?

Because we are so convinced that the weather app is lying, we wear our jacket out. Leaving our jacket would just be too strange.

So. Many. Regrets. We don’t even make it five minutes without breaking a sweat.

Once we have gotten over our absolute shock, now we can truly enjoy the weather. Hello cute summer clothes!!

Sadly, our vacation only lasts so long and we must return to the cold North. We may have been used to cold winters our whole life, but returning to that chilly temperature is not a fun time.

Maybe it is time to take a trip down south during these cold temperatures. Sound appealing, Vancouverites? If we can’t, we can learn to love the winter – we just need to bundle up!
