5 Ways to Stay Relaxed During Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UAB chapter.

It’s that time of the semester again! You are so close to finishing this semester! I get really stressed out during finals week so here are some tips that help me stay relaxed.

1. Talk to someone

If there is something that is bothering you-tell someone! Anyone! Your friend, professor, or even your pet. Talking it out truly helps. There are multiple websites online where you can meet random strangers and talk to them if you don’t want to tell anyone you know. Although, your family members and counselors are a great resources and will help you. Keeping your problem to yourself most of the time will not help. If you share your problem with someone, you might get advice in return.

2. Enjoy nature

If you feel pressure from all the studying you have to do, go outside and just walk around. The fresh air will help you be calm during this stressful time. You should forget all the things to do and enjoy Mother Nature. Take time to understand the cause of your stress and how to cope with it.

3. Exercise

Exercising will help you focus better and release stress. Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem.

4. Meditate

Meditation helps reduce anxiety, anger, frustration, and sadness. It improves your happiness, emotional stability, and peace of mind. Meditation can also help you to understand your own mind. You can learn how to transform your mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy.

5. Eat healthier

Eating desserts are delicious but fruits have some magic power that will help you learn better! You probably know that the food you eat affects your body. Cutting back on junk food and choosing healthier options helps you maintain a healthy heart, strong muscles and an appropriate weight. When you eat healthier, you can focus on tasks and achieve them better.

A friend told me something encouraging that has helped me during exam times. “Grades don’t define you, they are important but not as much as you.” It’s true! You are more important than your GPA. If you aren’t getting the grades you want, take a break and realize that life is more than grades. Your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health shouldn’t be sacrificed.
