I honestly don’t know what I’d do without Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect holiday to eat and lay around to your heart’s content- what more could you want?! Though Thanksgiving is honestly amazing in every way, I had to break it down to the 10 best parts of the holiday.

7) Going home: I feel bad putting this in last place, but it will make total sense by the end. I love being in Laramie and being around my friends, but sometimes it’s just nice to go home for a minute and reset. I love school, but going home for even the day is nice to just take a step back from school stress.

6) The weather: I’m all about summer, but nothing beats a nice fall feel to Thanksgiving. I love the changed leaves, the chill in the air and the ability to wear a cozy sweater and leggings to Thanksgiving dinner.

5) Pie: Y’all. I don’t like pecan pie, but I can get down with some pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream after a big meal. Every year my dad makes it all from scratch and it just makes it that much better. I love pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, otherwise, I’m good. (Sorry, I just think it’s too festive to have any other time.)

4) The ability to eat as much as you want all. Day. Long.: I do this anyways, but it’s socially acceptable to eat a sh*t ton and not even feel bad about it on Thanksgiving. Hello, mashed potatoes, turkey and pumpkin pie. I have like 8 servings throughout the day and it’s totally fine.

3) The nap that comes after the main course: Turkey has tryptophan, which makes you sleepy, so you know a nap is coming the second you finish eating. I love eating everything and then taking a nice long snooze before going for a second round. There are few things better than a nice nap accompanied by good food.

2) Making the meal with family: This might be weird for some people, but for me, it’s so fun to have my parents, my sister and I all in the kitchen together, cooking/baking and laughing. It feels like we’re little kids again and I miss those moments as they’re so few and far between now that my sister and I have moved out. Family time is the best time.

1) Mashed potatoes and gravy: Yes, this is my number one and I’m not ashamed at all. I absolutely love mashed potatoes and gravy, so I pile it on when dinner is served. It’s one of my favorite foods and on Thanksgiving, it just tastes better on the holiday.

I’m so pumped for Thanksgiving and all the simple joys that come with it. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!
