Consumable Gifts are the Best Gifts, and Here’s Why

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Like many young adults, I’m plagued with having to move every few years, if not more. In order to make this transition as stress-free as possible, I limit the amount of items I own. When the holiday season arrives, preparing for more  items is a must. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate every gift given and received this holiday season! However, most students, like me, live in small spaces, so here’s an alternative to those knick knacks we don’t really need.

One of the best ways to counteract amassing too much stuff during the holidays is giving and (politely) hinting at consumable items. Consumable items take many forms, such as food and drinks, gift cards, necessary household items and more! When gifting these items, the chances of them being used and appreciated is high. Who doesn’t need more toilet paper, especially when it’s selling out in droves!

University is one of the best times to have new life experiences, which makes event tickets and passes a top choice. While COVID-19 may have limited our museum, movie and concert experiences, a vaccine is right around the corner. With this in mind, 2021 will be the time to catch up on experiences, making event passes an ideal gift this holiday season.

Finally, never underestimate the power of homemade cookies or a box of Lindor chocolates, especially when sticking to a budget.

If you have a university student in your life, consider a consumable gift this holiday season. They’ll appreciate it more than you know. Happy gift hunting!

Savannah is currently in her fourth year at UVic majoring in English and Business! When not swamped with readings, she can be found exploring downtown, drinking way too many pumpkin spice cold brews, reading, and enjoying the experiences UVic has to offer.
