Couples: you gotta love ’em. Whether they’re slow-burn romances, or enemies turned lovers, or even superheroes and space queens, they always seem to add extra moments of delight to stories we already love. They make us root for the characters, give us more reasons to fall in love with them on the page or the screen. And double points if it’s a relationship that has our hearts melting.
In honour of one of the most romantic months of the year, I decided to put together a list of 20 adorable fictional couples.
1. Rhysand and Feyre
Straight from the pages of one of Sarah J. Maas’s popular series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, is one of the cutest, most supportive, and by far cheesiest couples I have seen in a long, long time.
2. Jake and Amy
Jake and Amy. Peralta and Santiago. Honestly, #couplegoals.
3. Rogue and Gambit
Recently married mutant couple Rogue and Gambit has a very special place in my heart as one of the cutest villain-fighting duos right now.
4. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy
When it comes to couples, Elizabeth and Darcy of Pride and Prejudice is a classic, and one you can’t help but love as you watch Elizabeth slowly moving from despising him to falling for Darcy.
5. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider
It’s the classic story of a girl in a tower and an unsuspecting thief, travelling together and discovering their dreams. And honestly, Flynn and Rapunzel’s relationship became sort of a dream, despite the witch that tried to kill Flynn for a hot minute.
6. T’Challa and Nakia
Honestly, name a more fabulous looking couple. I’ll wait.
7. Fitz and Simmons
Two nerds falling in love while attempting to save the world? Overcoming incredible, world-ending odds but never faltering in their loyalty to each other? FitzSimmons was a pairing it was difficult not to root for.
8. Holt and Kevin
Marriage is a contract, and it sustains you. And what couple has taught us that better than Holt and Kevin of Brooklyn Nine-Nine?
9. Ron and Hermione
They were the couple you didn’t know you needed, until you did. The growth of Ron and Hermione’s relationship throughout the Harry Potter series was wonderful, and seeing them falling for each other was something beyond sweet (despite the forces of evil these teenagers had to contend with).
10. Leia and Han
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, a rebel princess and a smuggler fell in love (although, who wouldn’t fall for a handsome, young Harrison Ford?).
11. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask
A couple that proves that true love knows no bounds, and that it can transcend centuries if it means finding your love again.
12. Dick Grayson and Starfire
Whether you fell for their characters in the cartoon Teen Titans, the live-action series Titans, or from the comics, I don’t think anyone can deny how sweet Dick Grayson and Starfire are together.
13. Nani and David
Nani and David’s subtle relationship was something absolutely delightful in an all-around delightful movie. Even without blatantly talking about their relationship in the film, it was like they were a family, and that’s what Lilo and Stitch is really about.
14. Undyne and Alphys
While a little more obscure, the soft relationship between Undyne and Alphys in Undertale was one of the many highlights of the game. A strong warrior and a geeky scientist—what else could you want?
15. Westley and Buttercup
Not even rodents of unusual size could break the love Westley and Buttercup had for each other.
16. The Count and Prince Humperdinck
You can’t convince me they weren’t a thing.
17. Ellie and Carl Fredricksen
The first 10 minutes of the Disney-Pixar film Up had us all in tears, and if you say otherwise, you’re lying. Somehow, we were able to get a sense of years of a beautiful, loving relationship between this couple in such a short time, and it was the best relationship many of us have seen in a long, long time.
18. Emma and Mr. Knightley
Emma is a badass, but Mr. Knightley is just what she needs to balance out her fire. Talk about a perfect match.
19. Castle and Beckett
From mostly unwilling partners to friends, to lovers, to husband and wife. A writer and a detective—sounds like the type of pairing you’d read about in one of Castle’s novels!
20. Chandler and Monica
Chandler and Monica’s stable, heartfelt relationship proves that you can fall in love with someone you consider to be just a friend—even your college roommate’s sister, or the annoying guy who lives across the hall.
